Welcome Matthew Hyland
In November 2017, Matthew Hyland, PhD, joined the ASC Group Harrisburg Office as our Principal Investigator-Architectural Historian.
Matthew grew up in Richmond, Virginia, and completed his doctoral degree at the College of William & Mary. He has been researching, teaching, and writing about the historic American landscape for many years. Matthews’ main historical interests are historic architecture (he wrote a history of Montpelier, President James Madison’s historic plantation in Virginia), Pennsylvania history (particularly the Whiskey Rebellion), and the American Wild West.
He has over 16 years of experience in Section 106 compliance, completing large-scale architectural resource survey projects, nominations of historic districts to the National Register of Historic Places, digital history presentations, historic preservation mitigation projects, and cultural heritage advising to a variety of clients. Based on his experience, scholarship, and education, his qualifications as a historian and architectural historian exceed the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in Architectural History and History (36 CFR Part 61).
