ASC Group, Inc. (ASC) conducted a hazardous materials assessment on the three-story administration building located in the City of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. The evaluated area spanned approximately 24,000 square feet (8,000 square feet per floor), with the building’s construction dating back to 1970. The inspection was commissioned by the Louisville MSD to gain insight into the hazards present within the building and to develop strategies for addressing them in preparation for renovations.
ASC completed an Asbestos, Lead Based Paint, and Hazardous Building Material Survey Report. Our team of experts performed a comprehensive on-site assessment to identify all hazardous materials within the facility, including asbestos, lead, mold, chemicals, and other potentially harmful substances. ASC meticulously cataloged and classified each hazardous material based on its properties, quantity, and associated risks, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
ASC’s State-Certified Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist conducted an Asbestos American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) inspection, which involved collecting 120 bulk samples of suspected ACM for analysis. Additionally, ASC collected five bulk paint samples for the LBP survey, adhering to standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Furthermore, our team collected seven bulk tape samples and four air-o-cell samples to assess the levels of surface and air mold within the building and its Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system. ASC also conducted a visual inspection to identify other hazardous materials and Universal Wastes, including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), mercury-containing fluorescent lamps and switches, fire/smoke detectors with radioactive sources, NICAD, Lithium-ion, and lead-acid batteries, ozone-depleting refrigerants, and radiological items.
Our experts were well-versed in local, state, and federal regulations governing hazardous materials management, ensuring compliance with the project’s scope of work. Our evaluation provided MSD with invaluable insights into their hazardous material management practices, empowering them to proactively address potential risks and ensure the safety of their employees, facilities, and the surrounding environment.
Based on our findings, we delivered a detailed hazardous material inventory report, risk assessment findings and analysis, regulatory compliance assessment report, and a comprehensive set of recommendations for safety enhancement and compliance measures. By implementing our recommendations, MSD can enhance their safety protocols, achieve regulatory compliance, and mitigate the risk of accidents and environmental incidents.
